If you are stressed at work, you might think the solution is to build more mental strength so you can handle workplace issues better. If you’re struggling with anxiety, you might assume you need to meditate more often.

There are some simple changes you can make to the environment to help you build mental strength and to preserve what strength you already have.

But sometimes, the solution to our problems isn’t about working on our inner strength. Instead, the best way to tackle some problems involves making a few changes to the environment.

You only have so much mental energy. The last thing you want to do is put yourself in a position where all your energy is wasted combating an unhealthy environment.

On today’s episode of The Verywell Mind Podcast, I explain how to set yourself up for success. Everything around you affects your mental health and your mental health. And sometimes, the best way to feel better is about creating an environment that is conducive to being the strongest and best version of yourself. 

Unfortunately, some people still believe that a harsh environment is the key to toughening up. But that’s not true. A nurturing environment goes a long way to helping you actually develop inner strength.
