Creating your perfect home gym takes time. But once you find your favorite essentials, getting a full-body workout from the comfort of your living room is easy. While a vibration plate might not be the first piece of equipment on your list, it can add a serious boost to your exercise routine.

“A vibration plate helps to ‘turn on’ your muscles by slightly shaking them and giving them more input,” Theresa Marko, PT, DPT, MS, a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy, says. This additional muscle activation has been shown to improve strength and muscle engagement and even improve bone mineral density.

Super Deal Pro Vibration Plate Exercise Machine

  • Easy-to-read LED display

  • Includes remote control and resistance bandsBuilt-in Bluetooth speaker

  • Smaller surface area

  • No wheels

Note that the plate is somewhat smaller than others on our list, which helps with storage but may make it more difficult to maintain your balance. And, while it has suction cups, it does not have wheels. You’ll also need to plug it in to use it.

For individuals with balance concerns or who prefer extra stability, we recommend Lifepro’s Rhythm Vibration Plate. The vertical machine includes an elevated console and handrails you can grip to maintain your balance. And the handrails have built-in pulse readers to help monitor your heart rate.

Best Vertical

Lifepro Rhythm Vibration Plate Machine

  • Resistance bands and cup holder included

  • Built-in pulse readers

  • Wheels for simple storage

  • Large and heavy

We like that it comes with five resistance bands and features 99 adjustable speeds. Plus, users have access to Lifepro’s library of exercise videos. The machine’s oscillation also has a higher amplitude than most, which means the vibrations will be stronger on higher settings.

This vibration plate weighs more and is larger than others on our list, so storing it may be difficult. But it does have two built-in wheels for easy portability.

Note that the handrails and console are fixed, so you won’t be able to perform off-machine exercises in every direction. For instance, you can’t do lateral exercises like side lunges, as the rails will get in the way.

Price at time of publication: $360

Key Specs:Dimensions: 48 x 27.3 x 29 inches | Speed: 99 adjustable speeds | Frequency: 2-6 Hz | Weight: 57 pounds | Weight Capacity: 330 pounds | Vibration Type: Oscillation

The VT007 High Frequency Vibration Plate is our top recommendation for a mini vibration plate. Weighing in at 23 pounds, we like that it’s light and easy to tuck away when you’re not using it. This plate also features a linear vibration rather than oscillation, which can feel more intense.

Best Mini

VT Vibration Therapeutic VT007 High Frequency Vibration Plate

  • Lightweight

  • Suction cups for safety

  • Includes remote control

  • Must be plugged in to use

  • Works best on carpeted floors

The price point is higher than others on our list, especially considering that this plate doesn’t come with additional accessories besides a remote control. But it does offer a 10-year product warranty and a 15-year warranty on parts, along with sturdy construction.

The brand advises only using this vibration plate on carpet, as it can damage hardwood floors. Also, it must be plugged in at all times—this product doesn’t come with a battery-powered option.

Price at time of publication: $400

Key Specs:Dimensions: 22 x 16 x 5.7 inches | Speed: Not listed | Frequency: 15-40 Hz | Weight: 23 pounds | Weight Capacity: 308 pounds | Vibration Type: linear vibration

If you’re searching for the best oscillating machine, we recommend Lifepro’s Rumblex Plus 4D Vibration Plate. It features oscillating vibration and tri-plane vibration, meaning you get plenty of options when it comes to your workouts. The Rumblex Plus also has 60 adjustable speeds and a variety of programs and training modes to choose from, plus a remote designed to be worn as a watch, so you won’t have to stop moving to switch up the plate’s settings.

Best Oscillating

Lifepro Rumblex Plus 4D Vibration Plate Exercise Machine

  • Includes watch remote control, resistance bands, and exercise mat

  • Built-in Bluetooth speakers

  • Wheels for simple storage

  • Expensive

  • Less speed options

This machine is more expensive than many other vibration plates on our list. But we love that it comes with built-in Bluetooth speakers and a library of workouts you can follow. And it offers a higher weight capacity of up to 500 pounds, as opposed to others that can only handle 300 or 350 pounds.

Price at time of publication: $560

Key Specs:Dimensions: 29.5 x 18 x 6 inches | Speed: 60 adjustable speeds | Frequency: 4-40 Hz | Weight: 38.5 pounds | Weight Capacity: 330 pounds | Vibration Type: 4D (oscillation and tri-plane pulsation)

LifePro’s 3D Turbo Vibration Plate is our top pick for a tri-plane vibration plate because it features two separate motors. In addition to oscillating, the plate also pulses, and you can use it in any of the three modes: oscillation, pulsation, or a combination of the two. We like that it features a wider surface area than other plates on our list do, so it’s easier to balance while you exercise.

Best Tri-Plane

Life Pro 3D Vibration Plate Exercise Machine

  • Handle and wheels for simple storage

  • Includes remote control and resistance bands

  • Larger surface area than other plates

  • Display doesn’t have as many options

  • Heavy

This plate weighs almost 40 pounds, so it’s heavier than others on our list, but it has a handle and a wheel on the bottom to help with portability. Note that this plate’s display doesn’t have as many options as others do.

Price at time of publication: $250

Key Specs:Dimensions: 30.5 x 17.3 x 5.9 inches | Speed: 99 adjustable speeds | Frequency: 4-15 Hz | Weight: 39.7 pounds | Weight Capacity: 330 pounds | Vibration Type: Oscillation and tri-plane pulsation

  • Budget-friendly

  • Retractable handle and wheels for simple storage

  • Lightweight

  • Less speed options

  • Lower weight capacity

We like that Hurtle’s model is budget-friendly and comes with an extra-large display. However, it only offers 40 speeds, compared with other plates that offer 99. It also has a low weight capacity of up to 265 pounds. And since it’s smaller, the base isn’t as wide, so some users may not find it as comfortable or easy to balance on as other plates.

Price at time of publication: $170

Key Specs:Dimensions: 26.77 x 14.96 x 4.72  inches | Speed: 40 adjustable speeds | Frequency: Up to 55 Hz | Weight: 30.8 pounds | Weight Capacity: 265 pounds | Vibration Type: Oscillation and vibration

For a vibration plate that comes with all the accessories you’ll need, we recommend LifePro’s Rumblex 4D Pro Vibration Plate. In addition to the 4D vibration and oscillation, this plate comes with a workout mat, ankle straps, six long resistance bands of varying intensity levels, four mini looped bands, and a remote control that can be worn like a watch.

A remote control and resistance bands will help you get the most out of the 99 adjustable vibration speeds. How We Selected the Best Vibration Plates

To select the best vibration plates, we first asked Theresa Marko, PT, DPT, MS, a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy, and Holly Roser, CPT, a personal trainer and sport nutritionist, for their expert opinions on which features every model should have.

Then, we researched dozens of options from the most trusted and popular retailers. We considered each vibration plate’s features, including ease of use, price, vibration frequency and style, and safety features. Finally, we examined whether the products offered additional accessories to expand the use of the vibration plate.

What to Look For in a Vibration Plate

Weight Capacity

Most vibration plates are designed to support at least 230 pounds, but the weight capacity varies from machine to machine. Ideally, look for a machine that can support at least 300 pounds, like Lifepro’s Rumblex Plus 4D Vibration Plate. Machines with a higher weight capacity also tend to be sturdier overall.

Speed

Adjustable speeds are an important feature of vibration plates. “You want to look to see if there are varying speeds and intensities so you can customize it to your needs,” Marko says. For instance, you may want to use higher speeds when standing still or doing lower body exercises like squats but lower speeds when sitting on the machine or doing upper body exercises.

Type of Vibration

Typical vibration plate styles include oscillation plates or tri-plane plates. Tri-plane vibration means the plate vibrates up and down, side-to-side, and front-to-back. This type of plate is often seen in gyms and fitness centers.

Oscillation plates move more like a pendulum, rocking from one side to the other. This motion simulates walking and tends to be more gentle, with more uses in therapy and general health rather than sports or workouts.

Safety Features

Make sure your vibration plate is sturdy and won’t slip and slide around while you use it. Suction cups or rubber feet are common features that can help prevent unwanted movement. Also, look for a plate with good traction, like a non-slip rubber or carpeted surface. Some plates even feature removable handles or rails to help you balance.

“I would focus on purchasing a high-quality plate by a brand that’s been around for a long time. You want to look for a machine that won’t have mechanical problems and one that feels stable,” Roser says.

Additional Features

Some vibration plates come with additional features like remote controls, Bluetooth speakers, exercise mats, resistance bands, detachable handles, or removable seats. Choose a plate that offers all of the equipment you need to feel safe, comfortable, and motivated while using it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does a vibration plate do?
  • A vibration plate vibrates while you sit, stand, or exercise on it. The motion “recruits stabilizing muscles, helping you get stronger, faster,” Roser says. “It also helps utilize your core further than a regular squat, lunge, or pushup would. For a workout, you can use the vibration plate for lunges, pushups, glute bridges, step ups, tricep dips, split squats, seated shoulder presses, and more.”
  • How much does a quality vibration plate cost?
  • You can expect to pay anywhere from $75-$550 for a quality vibration plate. You may see cheaper options on the market, but they may not be as sturdy or durable, and they may not have any additional equipment or features. More expensive models might be large, heavy, and difficult to move around. The cheapest vibration plate on our list is often available for under $80, while our top overall pick, Lifepro’s Waver Vibration Plate, was $270 when we published this list.
  • What are the benefits of using a vibration plate?
  • There’s evidence that vibration training may help reduce back pain, stimulate muscle growth, and enhance bone mineral density. “With back pain, the deeper, more stabilizing muscles such as your multifidus [deep muscles in the back] become inhibited, meaning they don’t turn on and work as expected. This inhibition can lead to instability, which leads to a cascade of events, including pain. The vibration helps them to kick in,” Marko says.It may even help with weight loss, although research is still mixed. One study found that vibration training had no significant effect on the percent of participants’ body fat. But other research has shown that, when combined with a healthy diet and other exercise, it could boost reductions in fat mass.
  • How often should you use a vibration plate?
  • “This would be a great addition to your normal workouts, one to two days per week. Try adding one circuit of the plate into your workout routine,” Roser says. She also suggests paying attention to your core and breathing while you use the machine. “Ensure that with each move performed on the plate, you’re focusing on bracing your core and breathing through your belly instead of your chest. This will help you reach the most benefit of the plate.”
  • Is there anyone who shouldn’t use a vibration plate?
  • Because vibration plates require balance and stability, those at a greater risk of falling shouldn’t use a vibration plate without approval from a doctor or physical therapist. “It would not be advised for people with poor balance, those who are pregnant, anyone with severe osteoporosis, or any other condition where this type of movement would make them at risk for injury,” Marko says. “I would definitely go see your physical therapist to see if you have any underlying issues, such as decreased range of motion, postural issues, or strength deficits, to be sure you won’t cause any injuries when you start using the vibration plate in your workout.”
